Magic Jack's package states that all you need to make it work is a telephone and a high speed internet connection. I checked MJ's website, and their requirement is a mere 128 kbps connection. My Hughes Net Gen4 service is 10 mbps upload and 1 mbps down. 8 times faster than required.

It does not work. Period.

The reason is that cable and DSL are continuously sending packets of data over the internet, while satellite does it in bursts. Speed is irrelevant.

Magic Jack needs to inform consumers of this both on the packaging and on their website where it is plainly visible. I believe the company is acting dishonestly and fraudulently by not doing so.

Well that answers my question about using Exede internet. Basic Talk says it up front that it won't work with a satellite system. Thanks
