Love my MJ and MJ+ | Magicjack review from Washington, District Of Columbia
I would guess not everyone is happy with MJ but for me it's worked well since I started with this company 2007 when it first came out I ordered three MJ two for my home (wife and me) and one for my son who was in Germany at the time. I had a year of service on each one as part of the initial package and had no real problems except what I'd call minor problems when it came time to update the internal software I had to call CS to have them force install the software update. It worked fine after that. Sometimes I get calls and no one is there or they can't hear me but that has gotten better over time. I've always renewed on time so no problems with paying for a new number ect since the device never expired. I got a new MJ+ because you can just plug it into an electrical outlet and it works without a computer. I only came with 6 months not a year like my first ones but hay everything has gone up in prices, taxes you pay to the state and federal have gone up why not MJ? Nothing ever stays the same over time. I did just before then end of the six months renew for five more years and there was no extra for a phone number charged. So don't let it expire and I'd say by my experience that you won't have any extra charges for a new phone number. Bottom line I like my MJ+ and I even liked the first model. My son would call from Germany and I'd talk with him over the phone with no extra charges on his part or mine. It had a US phone number but was located in Germany and used the Internet for the connection so it had no problems. Quality of call at times were not so good but resolved if we just called back again and got a better connection. I use it for my business from home and it's serves me well and it's sure much cheaper than the phone company. Also if you now get cable phone or FIOS phone they are now VOIP phone and not the old analog copper wire phone service everyone was used to in the past. When they tell you digital that is your first clue that you have a VOIP phone with your phone company and it's way cheaper for them to give you digital than the old analog type of line service plus they charge you triple or more for the cost of a MJ like device. I've had the same problems with my FIOS digital phone as I get with MJ so they are about the same.

I was double charged because they have a notice that pops up on the screen that said my payment failed to go through please resubmit. I have contacted them several times on this. They told me their billing department was handling it. My bank claims they haven't heard from them & for me to dispute the charge. I am also having a problem with voices sounding so garbled I quit using it ! I am wondering if this is common problem with this company. I can see a major class action lawsuit with this very crooked company. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB.

I GOT Mj SINCE FOUR YEARS AGO NOW IM TRYING TO RENEW IT, ACOOUNT WAS DISABLED NO CHOISE TO GO BEYOND LOGIN, CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS.. MORE THAN 20 TIMES SAYING .... WAIT FOR AN EMAIL FRON THE HIGHER DEPT, SOUNDS IN BROKEN ENGLISH LIKE FROM INDIA PHILLIPINES OR ANYWHERE OUT (OF COURSE FEEDING mj POCKETS AND INCREASING THE UNNEMPLOYMENT HERE IN AMERICA), NOBODY GAVE ME A REAL ANSWER WHY MY ACCOUNT ITS UNDER REVIEW FOR A HIGHER DEPT, LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE A ROCKET SCIENTIS UNENCRIPTING NOTHING, I USE THIS LINE FOR PERSONAL PROPOSES, I LOOSING ALL MY CONTACTS AND CALLS, SINCE MONTH AGO... I had my service disconnected without any notification, nor request for renewal. My account was not even due for renewal either, despite that I went and paid to be renewed just in case. My account was charged. and despite two days of calling with thier on line chat line customer service, and their promise of resolving the issue two days later I have received no response. I have spent hours contacting their so call customer service and after lengthy waiting and promise that they going to look into the situation I was forced to hang up with no progress after two days.
I paid 100 dollars for the five year extended service time. When the device stopped working after one year, I was told my service and license was good for five years, but my phone number was only valid for one year, and I'd have to pay again to keep the number...

When I purchased Magicjack, the add was to get great telephone in your home for 19.99 a year. I being a nieve American consumer thought that meant after installing MJ I could go to any of the four phones in my home and answer a call or make a call. I now have three phones in my home that don't work. After contacting MJ the cost for MJ went from the addvertised $19.99 a year to $102.59. I paid the charge thinking I would still be saving $ from my telephone co. monthly charge. I would never have purchased MAGIC JACK had I been remotely informed at the time of purchase that I would only be able to use just the ONE phone that was attached to MAGIC JACK in my home. WOULD YOU????? Of course I can not get a refund because the 30 day trial period has expired. I hope many of you read this before concidering MAGIC JACK. I wish I read something similar before I purchased MAGIC JACK. In todays lifesyle you can only use ONE phone in your house . REALLY ????????????

Purchased magicjack plus(beware of commercials and ads) you DO NEED A COMPUTER & INTERNET for this thing to work.The company is deceitful about the product! Let's call it bait &switch in legal terms!Talked to a live rep discussed product in depth was told computer and internet was necessary for the magicjack plus to work,only way for it to work! Rep told me to go to friends house to register devise,look on back it will explain that it has to be reg. wherever you take it for it to work,cheesy product,rip off for people trying to save money on a serious fixed income.Why can't these kind of people be stopped,I say we ban together get a class action lawsuit.It is bait&switch straight across the board!!!!

Responding to a free trial offer with Magic Jack, I submitted my credit card with the understanding that my card would not be charged for 30 days and that I could return the item (Magic Jack Plus device) within that time period and the trial period would be totally free. The next morning upon checking my bank account, I found that I was overdrawn. Magic Jack had debited my card. As I am on a fixed income, I had to make up the funds before the end of the business day otherwise my account would tumble and penalties would be assessed against my account every day until I placed sufficient funds into the account. I was able to do so but otherwise this situation could have been very hurtful to my already dire financial condition. No I have no money at all until my next Social Security check comes in a week from now.

I spent 5 hours on the chat line (can't speak with a live person). Had three different agents or whoever they may be as they didn't know what they were doing. Finally got plus up and running but when I dial out it stops working or a marketing number comes up and my friends won't answer the phone. My magicjack number is never displayed so noone knows I am callling. I am sending this piece of *** back and hope they will refund my money. In reading other complaints refunds are a problem. A class action certainly sounds appropriate.

...Put in email address and password and they tell me password does not go with sign-in and they gave me the password and can't go anywhere to change email or password corrections....Took magic jack back....if you get this item and make just one wrong mistake you are SCREWED as you can't get changes made....DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. There should be some place to go where changes can be made when mistakes happen. At least have a customer rep on hand as you advertise it to death and NO HELP ANYWHERE.this makes 3
