The app on my phone went corrupt. It just wouldn't sync. I chatted with them and they said to delete the app and reinstall. They said they noted I was contacting them from Mexico. I said that is correct, I am visiting here. They said no problem. Just delete and reinstall. I specifically asked, will my phone numbers be preserved? I could see all my contacts, I just couldn't call them. She kept telling me it was fine, they were good. I deleted the app and went to install it again and can't. She forgot to mention the only way to install the app in Mexico is Magic Jack America. It would have automatically changed my phone number to a Mexican number. I reminded her, I am in Mexico visiting, I need the US version. She said I can't do that from Mexico, I have to install it in the US. I reminded her AGAIN, I am visiting Mexico, why would I want a Mexican number? What will I do when I go back to the US in a couple of days? She didn't know. So I found a way to get the app and reinstall, it's a back door kinda way. Guess what? All my phone numbers are gone. I contacted them again asking where are my phone numbers? She looked back on the previous chats and told me it's my fault, I should know the phone better. When their customers are challenged with telephones all the training in the world can't make employees help those customers. I explained I know how to ask if my phone numbers will be preserved. What does my phone have to do with their incorrect information on preserving my phone numbers? I honestly and sincerely hate these people. Never again, Magic Jack. After five years of being a customer this is the final straw. I am done. It's time to find a service where their employees actually have training and know what customer service is. Von, Jill, and Faye were the people. Faye is absolutely the worst. I believe that word of mouth is the best advertising any business can have. I promise Magic Jack that for the next 8 weeks every single person that I run into I will tell what a horror your employees are and your garbage service isn't worth it. Spend a few more dollars and get Vonage, that's what I'm going to do.

MagicJack charges to call some phone numbers inside the US

I have a FAX and message service. A couple of years ago, I tried to call it from my MagicJack number. I had previously been able to call my message service. But, since that time, when I try to call my message service, I get a MagicJack message saying I must purchase pre-paid minutes to connect. The number is a local number! I was very annoyed.I contacted MagicJack Live Help and got the runaround. They basically said They can do whatever they want, and I cannot call that number unless I pay them to do so... BUT IT'S A LOCAL NUMBER!!!! (The Message service is via www.j2.com )There is also a dating line that I call. It is also a local number. Several months after MagicJack blocked my message service, they did the same with the local dating line's number.I again complained via live help with no resolution.I then found I CAN call the same dating line in other cities without a MagicJack charge. I was annoyed by their inconsistancy. Why charge for calling the local service but not the one in another city??I again complained via live help with no resolution.MagicJack does not fulfill their advertised promises. They are inconsistent with applying charges WHICH THEY SHOULD NOT BE CHARGING!!I may go back to my other carrier.

you are still under the belief that there is a such thing as local or domestic long distance when using VoIP. i could have whatever area code I want and use it anywhere in the world with VoIP

besides, long distance charges are and never were based on geographical distance.

MJ has been pulling this *** of blocking rural telephone exchanges that have higher termination rates. while i disagree with MJ on this, you should also wonder why your answering service and dating lines are using numbers in these high cost termination areas - because they are cheating the system along with the tiny telephone company that they use - they find these small rural carriers with little subscribers and make a deal to order a bunch of lines from them, increasing the phone companies profits, and splitting it with them.. so some blame should also go towards the people you are calling that are trying to game the system.

I have the same problem, Its telling me to buy prepaid mins for conference call, platform calls and this phone #,Whats the deal I paid for a 5 year subscription and Im getting this? What a gimic!

We need an attorney to sue this company that's hiding because they don't want us to have there REAL # to contact to complain. If you find an attorney to sue, Im in and my name is Daryl and my ph # is (423) 949-7124.

My monetary loss is a 5 year contract worth about $70.00 or more. Also sometimes when I call certain #s it just hangs up and wont let me dial the # period, Very Sorry service I feel Ive been scammed because It doesent work like they say.

Work Associate in Sweden cannot call my local MagicJack number

A work associate is on business in Sweden and tried to call my MagicJack number. A MagicJack message informed him that he could not connect from his location. So, he had to call my cellphone. MagicJack is working: I can dial it from my cellphone. Did a live chat with MagicJack help. They said that the problem is in Sweden. But, if the problem was in Sweden, why did he get a MagicJack message informing him of the problem? The "service rep" went silent when I asked that question. I gave her the link to this website. I have another complaint which is just as frustrating and I'll file it as well.

so bad that someone hacked my bank acccount and purchased magic jack without my knowledge. where was the identity check of who they are selling to. now it is up to me to get my money returned, close my bank account, open a new bank account, contact all of my accounts with electronic payments and change it, etc, etc, etc. Pissed is not the word for what I am. I am beyond pissed. Did they ask for any identification of any kind? Apparently not. I going to the us attorney general with this and see what I can do about getting this scam shut down.

Charged a discontinued fee without telling me | Magicjack review from Phoenix, Arizona

I had magjic jack for about 2 days it would not work. Couldn't get a dial tone. I looked for a number to call them, they apparently only do chat! I went onto my email for the first time in awhile and found out they charged me 31.44 for discontinued service. I went on the chat and asked why I wasn't told about it, they told me that I received an email about it. I told them that I don't check my emails very often. I don't know about anyone else but I get text messages from everyone these days instead of emails. And to boot after going back to my previous carrier, now my phone lines don't work and that may cost me $100.00. They worked fine for years before magjic jack. THEY REALLY SUCK. Going to report them to the BBB

Oh no they don't, they only have chat, because that is what they have told me on the chat. I requested a number and they do not provide it.

ONLY thru chat.

You may have had good dealings with them and i know people who have them and like it, but for me it sucked.

first many others had this no. , now i get busy when i pick up phone and do not get calls, what is up with not being able to get svc without payong for it, when it is not my fault, if it cannot be fixed whee can I cancelt and make sujre another yearly chg is not put on for me to have to pay legal fees. Thanks for the no help, have had phone 6 months, put this on hold but cannot any longer it is making me angry to pay over $l00 for nothing, will likely never get to use this

When you have to renew it, you will go thru ***. My cousin have been trynig to renew since dec 2009 and customer chat they promise they will send an email and will fix up to now no results. I have been on the chat line for him everyday and they transfer me or just disconnect the chat / not nice

bought 2 majicjacks, could not complete regitration on either one. Kept getting the message " cannot access our regitsation server, if you can go to your internet it is a problem with our server., Now "I" have to pay the return postage for their problem. Their phone # for help with returns 561 594-2140 will take my call and give me a sales spiel the tell me my call cannot be completed as dialed. This is the worst experience I`ve ever had with an internet purchase. Strongly recconmend finding another provider, there are plenty of them out there. geoff huntington

Majic Jack Will not refund as advertised | Magicjack review from Phoenix, Arizona

I bought Majic Jack Plus (don't need a computer) but you need a modem. Why not just use the computer if you have a modem. They don't tell you that, I use Wifi, I don't have a modem. Returned it 2 days later. They deny receiving it, of course, and they can tell I have never used it. When I finally got them to agree to a refund, twice, They just won't do it. They say they will refund my money but nothing appears in my account, it has been over 2 months now. The only way to contact them is throught a "CHAT" which takes very long and is a pain. They apparently are liars.

This is a scam company run by a bunch of greedy weasels who lie to you, They told me they would NOT bill me after a long customer service call for a Magic Jack they sent that came opened and missing pieces and they CHARGED ME. They tried to - I contacted the credi cartd company which is what I advise everyone who leaves a complaint here to do. After the credit card company got involved I got a full refund
