Majic Jack/MajicJack Plus 2013/2014.... scam

I have been a customer, for MajicJack for over 8 years. The tech support is ONLY available on line/chat. The "support Team" wastes much time....which is my money. They do not resolve problems. I have received much scamming "run around". The ability to return device is also a scam....I have countless hours, of live chat with "someone in authority" such as Level of expertise.....to no avail. Will NEVER send me a RMA any method, requested. When I log in to my account, the information about what you "add to cart" is vague, and CANNOT remove. This company, MAJICJACK should receive a class action suit, against them, for poor and misleading practices, against, all USA and Canadian consumers.

My device stopped working after 3 months and they will not do a replacement even at cost. So I am stuck with a 5 year contract with incoming calls going to voice mail and no ability to make outgoing calls on that number. If there are others here who are interested in a class action suit, please indicate your interest and we can find a way to collaborate.

MagicJack Plus won't make or receive calls.

I had a regular MagacJack that worked great but MagicJack insisted that the Plus version was better so I bought a MagicJack Plus six months ago however it won't make or receive calls. Because you can't call MagicJack customer service you have to explain the problems by chatting. I have chatted with customer service several times for a total of about four hours and none of their fixes have worked. As the MagicJack Plus is still in warranty I have asked them several times for a replacement unit however even though the unit does not work they insist that there is nothing wrong with it.

Magic Jack false advertisements

Magic jack advertised call forwarding on there jacks. I bought 1 and it worked fine so we bought 8 more. Now the call forwarding dosen't work anymore and they are saying it isn't available anymore... BUT they still advertise the call forwarding. Then on top of this they won't even take back the jacks we bought or give us a refund of any kind. You talk about bait and switch.......This company got best product of the year for 2012 what a joke that was. I hope they get best scam of the year for 2013. They don't stand behind there product and still keep the deceptive advitersent.

Why would any one buy so many MJs?

I had MJ for a couple of years now, I have no major complains, yes it takes a little to set it properly but for the price, is a great deal.

I have no need for call forwarding.

Guest

I've installed the new MajicJack Plus and it works fine, but I just uncover it does blosk local number that belongs to other companies providers of long distance services, WHY? I find that very upsetting.

I could not agree more. I had ordered 6 as gifts an 2 for my self.

One of the ones I had did not work. Can only chat on computer spent 6 hrs with 5 different personal from Magicjack. No one could help. They kept hanging up when they could not get it to work, They will NEVE give you your money back.

I demanded a manager who came on and told me to plug the magic jack into my router? Ok embarrassed to say I did and of course the call was dropped and had to reboot my computer, but they got rid of me again. Spent all day the next day and now they are sending me to claims court because the credit card which I purchased the last on with was stolen and the bank canceled it so MJ transaction did not go through. They are insane, I would gladly return this junk to them, like another said "They will not let you".

The chat personal all stick to a scrip and they can not deviate from it. It became almost hysterical (if I were not so pissed off). All their answers were the same, even when you tried to ask something else they ignore you and stick to the scrip. What a *** company.

Please come and take this back. You wasted much of my time and money!!

I had problems installing MJ properly initially but once I got the wrinkles out I think it is a great service, it beats the other VOIP I had, and I pay 10 dollars for 600 minutes of conference calls or international calling is a bargain. :)

Stay away!

Cheap is cheap! Think twice before purchasing this device. Most of the reviews you will read are fake, created by their marketing team. Just imagine – would you run to your computer to write a good review if you are completely satisfied? You are writing a review only if you are angry and want to take your revenge. If everything works fine you just forget about that. You will have 30 days trial period. Within that time everything will work fine. I started having problems on the very next day after the trial period ended. I’ve been with the Magicjack for about 40 days and already sick and tired of their Customer NO service and technical problems. If you purchase the device be ready to frequent disconnections. You will not hear your opponents in most cases they are calling you. They will have to either redial few times or you will redial them. The Magicjack company has no phone number on their site. The only way to contact them is a live chat. I had to chat almost every day in order to reset the device on their end and it did not fix the problem. They also promised me that I could continue to use my Google Voice IP number when I decided to switch to Magicjack. And within 30-days trial I could use it. On the day 31-st I lost this service. Per their operator: As per terms of service , you can't connect to a non ILEC number if you do not have an IPP on your phone .. This part of Terms of service was already fully implemented. How could I two weeks ago? They advertise millions of customers are join their company, but they don’t tell you how many customers leave after they experienced problems with them. Cheap is cheap! And, also, be aware of the following alert: Pomerantz Grossman Hufford Dahlstrom & Gross LLP has filed a class action lawsuit against magicJack VocalTec Ltd., ("magicJack" or the "Company") CALL -1.75% and certain of its officers. The class action filed, in United States District Court, Southern District of New York, and docketed under 13-CV-0448, is on behalf of a class consisting of all persons or entities who purchased or otherwise acquired securities of magicJack between February 28, 2012 and January 8, 2013, both dates inclusive (the "Class Period").

Be AWARE that Magic Jack also asked for my password to my email which I FOOLISHLY gave to them thinking that they would need it due to my phone service being connected to my computer so now I've had to create a whole new email password causing me to lose most of my email info. Magic Jack had requested and has access to my email address, my email password, my phone number which I no longer have. Magic Jack has enough of my personal info to steal my identity.

My magic jack only worked for one month.I signed up for a years contact. When I contacted customer service(I spoke to Sonya), they could not figure out what was wrong. Sonya said that they could send me another unit for $11.80. I did not think that was fair, I just paid $32.00 for faulty service and equipment. And I ask if it still does not work can I get my money back and the answer was NO. They would not give me a refund for the remainder of time. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Magic Jack Plus stopped working

Had MJ Plus for a year and worked fine. Stopped receiving calls with no notice, callers just got ringing. Outgoing calls ok. When found out, very frustrating spent three hours on chat (no phone support). At instructed, upgraded firmware, then MJ stopped calling out also. Dead in water. Decided to port number to another service. When they started the process got an email from MJ saying they were going to charge $30 to release service. Service was ported anyway by new company with no charge. MJ was a good product, but I would never deal with a company with such poor service. Note $ loss is having to go with a more expensive service.

Magicjack DID Refund My Money

I posted how unhappy I was with MJ since I upgraded to MJ+ and I was charged for MJ plus MJ+. I complained bitterly on the chat line and was cut off. I informed them I would file two FCC complaints which I did. One for lack of service and the other for the payment. To be honest full disclosure I was refunded my 32 dollars and some cents on September 19th 2013. I know many will never see their money back and are unhappy but I was lucky to get my MJ money back. I wish you the same success.

Total outage for 8 - 10 hours of ALL magicJack services

Yup, there's a post by a guy named shmoe10349 on this website about magicJack and he has it right. There was an 8 - 10 hour outage of (apparently) the entire MagicJack network today. It went from something like 1 - 2 PM Eastern Time until about 10 - 11 PM. During 90% of that time frame the customer website (domain my.magicjack.com) simply would not respond. You would surf to that web address/domain and the web page simply stated something like ERROR ... try back later. Like Shmoe I also rebooted everything (in the right order). My background is HIGHLY technical. Unlike Shmoe I WAS able to use the web chat (http://www.magicjack.com/techchat) and contact a customer service rep. The reason I got through may be that I waited an hour or two before trying the web chat. When I did go on web chat the rep said that "our engineers are doing upgrades." Ha Ha HA HA! Their system/network fell flat on it's face! (Hey, it happens to the best of us.) I then asked if all service was out. The rep replied "Yes." It was obvious that everything was out other than the main website (http://www.magicjack.com). Now, I gotta say that up until now my 1.5 years as a MagicJack+ customer have been really quite good. Nobody/no service is perfect and there have only been 1 or 2 incidents where the voice quality was a bit shaky because of digital artifacts, etc. ... but in general I've been a VERY happy customer. If nothing like this happens for (say) another 2 years I'll give them a pass on this one. If a general outage happens again in the next 9 - 12 months then I probably won't renew my service. The reason I've listed my "loss" as $1 is that yearly sevice only costs $30 ... so I think it's reasonable to say that the value of a single (but extended) total service outage is about a buck.

After 1yr renewal.. NO dial tone

I guess all things come to an end. I had just paid for my 1 yr renewal of $32.00 in Sept. and now for the past 1 1/2 wk I have no dial- tone. I'm very heated about that seeing that I had this for 1 yr & not it doesn't work. It's also bad that you don't have a live Customer Service to speak to. It don't make any sense to have paid for the renewal now pay someone else a monthly fee to have phone service. If it's like that then I wouldn't recommend Magic Jack or Magic Jack Plus to any one.

I had the same problem. Thought the renewal was going to be 9.95 but found out instead it was a wopping $32.

Paid it because the MJ worked well for the year and hey it was still a savings right? Wrong!!!!!! Like you I very rarely have a dial tone, if any calls do go through 98% drop in mid call, and the live chat people are idiots!! I don't know how many times I've been instructed to uninstall the MJ and reinstall it.

Not to mention countless numbers of time I've been istruction that I needed to turn off my firewall protection in order for the MJ to function properly. Right, fat chance I'm *** enough to do that. Plus I'm angry that this would even be considered a solution. There is no mention of this requirement in or on the packaging or the advertisement.

It's a peice of junk. Not reliable.

Wells fargo CC told me to send back to dispute 30 day free trial

the ad came on the computer same day of order for plus jack $29.99 so I sent in. The bill came for 85 dollars, said the coupon was over????

I sent in the same day it was sent to me???? Bait and switch you bet.

I did not keep copy of ad so Wells fargo told me get bent and kept the charge, they, Wells fargo would not get my magic jack returned that they told me to send back so I have no jack and no money so Yes I got it in the back end from magic jack. They have it better than selling cocaine with Wells Fargo on their side...13 months later and Wells Fargo will not even answer my complaints any longer, by the way Wells Fargo sucks too, they forgot about the Customers.....do not give magic jack your credit card numbers if you do not want charges on it that you did not want......

Subject: Loss Of Dial Tone On Magic Jack Plus

Firstly, I must admit I have been very happy with my MJ Plus.

But, yes, I lost dial tone today. Turned out the AC Power Adapter

died (you know it when there are no binking green or amber lights on the MJ. The usual Support "Chat" BS was hardly much help. Yes, he told me, they could replace the AC adapter. All I had to do is send them the old adapter (to their Florida address - I live in Canada). They will determine if the Adapter is flawed and, in turn, will send me a new one. A 25-cent item (on their books anyway) with about a 4-week turn around and about a 10-dollar postage charge on either end. He understood the crayziness of that idea but had to follow protocol. Just Great!

Solution: I did get him to confirm that their AC Adapter was compatible with my iPhone adapter. $6.95 at Wal-Mart. Problem Solved at half the price.

2014 MagicJack+ broke in a month & forced to pay for replacement.

I'm very disappointed with magicJack?. I purchased a brand new 2014 MagicJack plus? upgrade (even though my previous unit was still working). The new unit worked for about 4 weeks and then stopped. I spent 5 days with their tech support doing the same steps over and over and over again and in the end they claimed that they were sending me a "free" replacement but that I had to pay $11.80 for "Shipping and Handling". They made a very unhappy customer with their rigid customer service policy. I recommend that they revisit their replacement policy to build better brand loyalty and customer satisfaction.

I have worked in call centers and had customers call using a Magic Jack. One caller could not be understood when he called.

He called several times and no one could understand what he was saying. When I got him I finally understood he was using a Magic Jack.

I advised him to call with a better phone. I hope he was able to under stand.

Guest

I had the same thing happen last year with the unit dying more than 30 days after I received it, and had forgotten that I was a bit aggravated at having to pay $12 shipping for a new one. But the replacement unit arrived within a few days has been working great for about 12 months now.

Recently, my contract was up for renewal, so I did some shopping.

Compared to the other services, Magic Jack, at $31 a year including tax, is still the cheapest. Oooma, for example, costs $130 up front, plus $40 to port a number plus $7.50 a month in taxes or $260 for the first year.

Purchased Magic Jack wanted to cancel and get my money back. On 7/15/2013 did the live chat; with 6 different reps, I am sick to my stomach that I even purchased this rip off. I am going to file a complaint with my Attorney General. BEWARE This is a Headache!!!! I believe since they have no physical presence in the USA there is no way to bring suit. The company is located in Israel.

God knows where the customer support people are. You can only get them online and they frequently just disconnect. You get nothing but boiler plate answers, often not even applicable to your issue. I spent hours and hours, day after day, with no help to connect.

There are thousands of complaints about this company.

The best thing to do is to just let it go. And if anyone asks you, tell them to run not walk in another direction.

You ar right - My friend just upgraded to the MJ+14 - The device work GREAT - - B U T _ _ his prepaid International minutes did not get transfered to the new device.

Prepaid minutes/service MUST be treated like an account the is transferred to the new service/device.

We both upgraded to the MJ+14 and we both got our service prepaid time applied to the new device. Somehow, the prepaid International minutes were "lost" - This is stealing from the customer.

Magic Jack is difficult to do business with. Just to find a human to talk with can be impossible. The idea is good,.....however it's a boat lacking oars........best in my opinion to forget about MJ and seek other means.....always on a recommendation of others.

Got An email stating Magic Jack Phone service will be charging

Here's the email below , i believe its fake because its only signed -Dan. Please let me know soon as possible if its fake or virus etc. Thank you -

Dear customer:

This is not a bill, but a choice for you as described below. If you decide you will not pay, you do not have to take any action.

Due to recent changes, magicJack will start to charge for 911 services for 911 capability. If you decide to continue to receive certain limited 911 calling privileges as described in our TOS, you will need to go to my.magicjack.com and fill out the necessary forms and give new debit/credit card information.

magicJack will not profit by collecting these pass through charges for the 911 authorities.

The charges will be billed annually by email and may cost anywhere from $6.00 to over $60.00 a year. On average throughout the country it will cost about $12.00 a year.

magicJack will provide limited exceptions for hardship cases for people who made a 911 call before July 1, 2013 and will post notification or email these certain customers later concerning the eligibility.

These unfortunate changes were made necessary because certain emergency 911 Districts in certain jurisdictions requested we attempt to bill on their behalf and benefit.

Dan

RE: 911 MagicJack scam: I (and other people) received an email that says it is from MagicJack that says that I should pay "them" for 911 services or I will be charged a lot more money by the government. I doubt that the real MagicJack would send such an email.

Many similar emails are signed merely "Dan." I believe that you are not required to have 911 at all, so you don't have to worry about being charged for it.

It is true that 911 was provided to MagicJack customers free, long ago, but now it is an optional feature that you must pay for if you want to get it at all. I think that the emails are scams and do not originate from MagicJack.

Guest

Magic Jack is not charging you for 911...

Your local 911 service is now charging Magic Jack to allow Magic Jack access to their 911 services....

So Magic Jack has no choice other then to "pass the buck" to you now.

Thats government for ya.

Treysen Epy

If you look at these e-mails, they are written VERY unprofessionally and with many errors. They almost remind me of the Nigerian e-mails....

Guest

The magicjack tos reads like they have a blank check. You have to agree with anything they say or they can terminate your service without any refund.

Guest

Quit complaining! Seriously!

First off your already getting a heck of a deal, second off, look at any land line bill!

They are charged FCC taxes every month, which clearly states 911 services.... #Getalife #quitcomplaining

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-719892

Not sure of what your complaint is. Is it for people complaining for having to pay for a service twice or that the service was provided unofficially?

Guest

This is a scam. Someone is trying to rip-off MJ customers. I got a similar, but not identical, email.

"MJ is in the process of being required to remit a 9-1-1 service fee to each jurisdiction in which they have customers."

You can take your MJ anywhere you go. They have no way of knowing which "jurisdiction" it is in. This is why you need to enter your physical address in order to make 911 work on magic jack.

THIS IS A SCAM. Don't even click on the link! You will probably get mal-ware on your computer.

Guest

You can always put the local law enforcement agency phone number into your contact list. Once you get that agency if you call, in my area, the first question the dispatcher asks is this -- "Is this an emergency?" If you say, yes, your call is treated as an emergency.

How often do you forecast that you will use 911? You just have to weigh the matter for your own situation. My great aunt is 90 years old, lives in a small town and has never called 911 in her life. This is just one example.

It's like an insurance policy. You pay for the peace of mind, but hopefully never have to use it.

Guest

To all of you saying that this is not Magic Jacks fault - Magic Jack can shove its fees where the sun don't shine. I suddenly am not allowed to call half the local numbers in my area, including the police and fire department non-emergency numbers, the only thing that this phone is now good for is calling 911.

Since I can no longer do that, and I can't call local calls, this VOIP system was just a waste of money.
